Be a part of something bigger than yourself. Have courage to make an impact wherever you are. Hold humility to the highest. All of these are important values for an office where employees seek to be more than just “on the clock”.
The homeless deserve dignity just the same as those we work with day-to-day, and The Stewpot has been getting this right for years. Some of their programs include drug and alcohol counseling, casework assistance, children and youth activities, employment assistance, meals, and medical care. One of The Stewpot’s well-loved yearly events is a concert that was started in 2003. Past performers include individuals from The Juilliard School, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Southern Methodist University, and Booker T Washington High School.
The Stewpot Concert for the Homeless is a great example of an effort to restore dignity to the lives of many homeless and at-risk individuals. A few people from our 2M family had the opportunity to volunteer at this year’s event, and it was a humbling experience to say the least. For it was not about the time away from the office, but about being given the opportunity to a bring a comforting smile to a few hopeful faces.
